COACH RAFA SIMOES
- Head Coach Rafa Simoes is in his third season leading the MU Women's Soccer program. The former associate with the Herd men's team is a 2018 graduate of the University of Charleston in West Virginia, where he played for then-head coach Chris Grassie.
- Simoes and the Herd had a resurgent 2025 season. In his second year as skipper for MU, Simoes led the team to win its most games in a decade with four All-Conference selections, also the program's most since 2015.
PRE-MATCH NOTES
- Coach Simoes will make his season debut on the sidelines Thursday. Simoes missed the team's opener last week before the Herd's game against Ohio Sunday was postponed due to thunderstorms.
- The Herd has 15 newcomers on its roster in 2026, one being junior forward Delfina Lombardi. The FIU transfer accounted for all three of MU's goals in the team's season-opening win, including a goal and a pair of assists.
- Sophomore midfielder Luana Gusmao was on the receiving end of both of Lombardi's assists. The Brazil native scored one goal as a freshman in 2025.
- Junior goalkeeper Emma Durand saved a penalty kick Thursday evening, becoming Marshall's first to successfully stop a PK since October 9, 2021.
- A team full of international flair, Marshall's 2026 squad features players from 16 different countries, the most countries represented on a single team in program history.
ABOUT THE PANTHERS
- High Point has dropped a pair of 1-0 results at home to open 2026, falling to UNC Greensboro and Davidson.
- The Panthers have 10 newcomers of their own under Head Coach Aaron McGuiness. HPU is the reigning Big South Conference Tournament Champions.
- Marshall leads the all-time series, 3-2. Thursday will be the Herd's first trip to High Point since 2018.
