Herd looks to start new season strong at The Virtues Golf Club
NASHPORT, Ohio – Marshall Men's Golf starts its 2026-27 campaign by competing in the Virtues Intercollegiate at The Virtues Golf Club, starting Saturday.
The Thundering Herd is one of 12 teams competing in the event, hosted by Bowling Green in Nashport, Ohio.
"This is the earliest we have started our season, but the golf course is in great shape and we have some good experience on the course," Marshall Men's Golf coach Matt Grobe said. "I'm looking forward to watching all our guys compete. We were very fortunate to be able to bring all the guys this week."
The 54-hole event gets underway at one of the nation's most pristine golf courses on Saturday with 36 holes of continuous play, starting with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
Sunday's final round will get underway at 9 a.m. as well with the final 18 holes of the event. Following the event, the team title and medalist for the event will be recognized.
Competing in the team portion for Marshall this week are Jackson Woodburn, Cael Ropietski, Tanner Vest, Jackson Harris and Wes Lorish. Harris is making his first appearance for the Herd.
Marshall also has four players competing as individuals this weekend: Sammy Shy, Ben Bridges, Carson O'Dell and Jake Dost. O'Dell and Dost join Harris in making their first Marshall appearance.
