First Half Header Lifts Herd Women's Soccer to Road Victory

MARTIN, Tenn. - A first half goal by Lea Misch was enough for Marshall Women's Soccer (3-1-1) to finish off an unbeaten two-game swing in the state of Tennessee, as the Herd defeated UT Martin Sunday night, 1-0.
After a draw Thursday in Nashville where Wiktoria Mikrut scored MU's 10th hat trick in program history, the sophomore forward from Poland provided the assist to Misch on the goal off a corner kick in the 30th minute.

Goalkeeper Emma Durand made six saves - with her best save of the night coming in the match's final moments - to preserve the first shutout of the season for Coach Rafa Simoes and the Herd.
"UT Martin is a really tough team, and I thought our girls were very consistent today against a quality opponent," said Coach Simoes. "I was really pleased with the quality of our set pieces and the relentless work from our back four, goalkeeper, and holding midfielders. The team did a great job applying the game plan and staying committed to what we worked on throughout the week."
Durand now has seven career shutouts in goal for Marshall, a number which ranks 5th in program history. Marshall's entire defense earned the shutout victory, with the Herd getting outshot 15-7 in the match. MU had to deal with eight second half corners, holding strong for the shutout win.
"I also want to give a special shout out to Nerea Munoz and Katia Cardaba, who both had really strong performances in the Marshall shirt today," said Coach Simoes. "It's great to see them stepping up and contributing to the team in moments like this."

"We're really happy with the way we competed on this Tennessee trip and with the progress we're making as a group," said Simoes. "Now we'll head back to Huntington, recover, and continue building. These are the experiences and challenges that will help prepare us for Sun Belt play, and we're excited about the way this team is growing, learning, and gaining valuable experience every time we step on the field."
