Marshall Baseball coach Greg Beals announced the hiring of Marshall Hall of Famer Aaron Blair as the Thundering Herd's new pitching coach in July of 2025.

"I couldn't be more excited to rejoin the Marshall Baseball program!" Blair said. "Marshall University holds a special place in my heart, and Caitlyn and I are thrilled to be back in Huntington and part of this community. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with this coaching staff and help develop the next generation of baseball players at Marshall."

The addition gives Marshall a pitching coach with Major League pitching experience and a deep connection to the Herd family.

"I am so excited about Aaron Blair rejoining the Herd as our pitching coach," Beals said. "He obviously had a Hall of Fame career here at Marshall, and he also went on to do great things as a professional, making it all the way to the big leagues. All these experiences have shaped his philosophies and the coach he will be, and I believe he is going to be a star in our profession.  Throughout this process I had the opportunity to not only talk good baseball but also get to know Aaron and his wife Caitlyn much better, and I couldn't be happier to have them join our baseball family, as well as our Marshall and Huntington communities."

Blair was inducted into the Marshall Athletics Hall of Fame in the Class of 2024 – his first year of induction – after starring for the Thundering Herd baseball program from 2011-13. He is still ranked in the Top-10 in Herd history in strikeouts and starts.

In 2013, Blair was named as a First-Team All-Conference USA Pitcher in the 2013 season after a junior season in which he was named National Pitcher of the Week by Louisville Slugger and the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

Blair had 10 quality starts in that 2013 season – seven of which came in his eight starts in C-USA action. He set the tone from the beginning of the season, going 3-0 with a 1.07 ERA in his first four starts – the most memorable being a six-inning performance on a cold evening in Charleston when he allowed no hits against West Virginia.

Following the 2013 season, Blair became Marshall's highest draft selection in history when he was chosen 36th overall as a compensatory pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks at the end of the first round of the 2013 MLB Draft.

In December 2015, Blair was traded to the Atlanta Braves and he later went on to start 16 games for the Braves in his MLB career in 2016-17.
The 33-year-old pitching coach is married to Caitlyn Morrone, who also played Women's Golf at Marshall.
