SBC Men's Golfer of the Week - April 18

Tyler finished with one of the top statistical seasons in Marshall history, finishing with a 71.08 stroke average per round, which was No. 2 in Marshall history. His career culminated with a T-7 finish at the 2024 Sun Belt Championships, which helped Marshall advance to the 2024 SBC Match Play semifinals. For the 2023-24 year, Jones finished with four top-10 finishes - including each of his last three tournaments - and eight finishes in the top-20 out of nine events played...Shot a 66 twice this year - the final round of the Feaganes Invitational in Fall and the 1st round of the Mountaineer Invitational in Spring. He finished T-4 in both events...finished at 3-under for the tournament in a T-10 finish at Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate in Spring...The model of consistency, Jones did not have a round above a 75 in any event played in the 2023-24 year.

2022-23 SBC Third Team selection

Tyler was named as an All-SBC Third Team selection after a 2022-23 year in which he had two wins and seven top-10 finishes in 11 tournaments played. For the year, Jones sported a 71.76 stroke average. Both of Jones' wins came during the fall season when he captured the title at the 2022 Joe Feaganes Invitational, finishing the event at 8-under, which also featured his year-best round of 5-under 66. His other win on the year came at the Dayton Flyer Invitational when he was the lone golfer in the field to finish at Even-par or better to best 81 other competitors for the title...Tyler continued momentum into the spring, registering three consecutive top-10 finishes to start the spring at the Loyola Intercollegiate (T-6), Sea Palms Invitational (10th) and the ECU Intercollegiate (7th). The Loyola Intercollegiate result came after a final round 5-under 67 that propelled him into the top-10 on the final day. Tyler also had a T-3 finish at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invite to start the year.

Competed in all 11 events for the Herd during incredible junior season … Played 32 total rounds … Led team with a season stroke average of 71.44, a career best … Set program record for the lowest single-round score of 62 (10-under) in third round of Golfweek Any Given Tuesday Collegiate (March 28-30), breaking the old mark of 63 (also 10-under) by Marshall Hall of Famer Linden Meade set back in 1958 … Named Third Team All-Conference USA, first Herd player named all-conference since Alex Weiss in 2018 … Repeat selection to the Conference USA All-Academic Team … One of three players to compete in all 11 events … Led team with 101 total birdies and tallied three eagles … Was the top finisher for the Herd in six events including the final five in-a-row … Had five top 10 finishes with all in the top five, and one more in the top 20 … 18-of-32 rounds scored par or better … First round under par of the season, second round of season-opener at EKU Fall Intercollegiate (Sept. 3-4) with a 1-under 69 (75+69+72) … Tied for runner-up to lead Herd in the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational (Sept. 13-14) with a 4-under 209 (68+68+73) to help Herd win its home event for the first time since 1977 … Top 20 finish (tied for 19th) at River Run Collegiate (71+73+78), recorded first eagle of the season on par 5 No. 18 in the second round … Rebounded from rough first and second rounds at Mountaineer Invitational (Oct. 4-5) lowering score by eight strokes (77+77+69) in the third round, moved up 13 places and helped team move up to fifth … Jumped up 10 spots on the leaderboard after a 2-under 70 in the third round at Loyola Intercollegiate (Feb. 20-22) tied for 24th (75+70+70) … Began streak of five-straight events leading Herd after second place finish at Sea Palms Invitational (March 4-5) with a 3-under 210 (68+75+67), moved up from fifth to runner-up with second-best final round score, recorded second eagle of the year on par 5 No. 4 in the first round … Tied for third at Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate (March 14-15) after scoring a 4-under 68 in both rounds, one round was canceled due to weather, tallied 10 total birdies with five in each round … Capped record-breaking performance at AGT tying for first collegiate victory, scored a 1-under 71 in the first round and then a 1-over 73 in the second round, entered final round tied for sixth overall and six strokes back from the leader Zack Byers, birdied first hole on the way to 10 total birdies, did not bogey a single hole and finished with a career-best and tournament-leading 18 birdies, birdied four of his final five holes to tie Byers for the win, and scored season and career-low three-round score of 10-under 206 … Continued to lower score (74+70+68) at Irish Creek Intercollegiate (April 2-3) … Led team at the Conference USA Championships (April 25-27), tying for fifth with a 2-under 214 (67+71+76), tallied third eagle of the season on par 5 No. 12 in the third round, and was named to the All-Tournament Team, Herd’s first top five finisher since Nathan Kerns in 2013 … Has competed in 24 events, 71 total rounds, so far in Herd career.

One of three players to compete in all seven events for Marshall … Led the team with a 74.29 per round stroke average … Tied with teammate Ben Roeder for the Herd’s lowest single-round score of 68, achieved in his very first collegiate round at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational (Sept. 9-10), where he finished tied for ninth with a 6-under 207 (68-69-70) … Totaled six rounds for the year under par … Was Marshall’s top finisher in four events: Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, River Run Collegiate (Sept. 23-24), Dayton Flyer Intercollegiate (Oct. 14-15) and Pinehurst Intercollegiate (March 6-8) … Finished tied for 10th at the Dayton Flyer Intercollegiate (73-75-70) with a 5-shot improvement in the final round to move into the top 10 and help the Herd finish fourth overall, the team’s best place of the season … Was named Conference USA Men’s Golfer of the Week (Oct. 16) after his performance at the Dayton Flyer Intercollegiate … Saw a 6-stroke improvement from the second to the third round (75-69) at the Loyola Intercollegiate (Feb. 22-24) and jumped 25 places on the leaderboard to finish tied for 27th … Led Marshall, tied for 14th, at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, which ended up being the final event of the season as the NCAA canceled the remainder of the season due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.

High School: Attended Worthington Christian High School and played for coach Zac Hess … Won the 2019 Ohio State Scarlet Qualifier that sent him on to the 119th U.S. Amateur Championship played at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club (Aug. 12-18, 2019) … Scored a 2-under 140 in the two rounds of the Ohio State Scarlet Qualifier to move on … Won the 2018 North-South Junior Championship … 2018 Division III individual state champion in Ohio … member of the 2017 Division III team state champions … Named first team All-Ohio in 2017 and 2018 … 2018 Central District Player of the Year … Honored as first team Mid-State League four times from 2015-18 … Named first team Central District in 2016 & 2017 … Garnered Academic All-Ohio honors … Involved in National Honors Society.
