Jake Aganus

Jake Aganus is working for the Buck Harless Student-Athlete Program as assistant director for academics. Jake has served in several capacities since his arrival at Marshall in 2019, including prior responsibilities as athletic trainer for baseball and as director of operations for Marshall's volleyball program.

Aganus came to Marshall after being the head athletic trainer of club sports at Grand Canyon University where he supervised and managed the health care of all 3000 club sports student-athletes. During his time with GCU club sports, Aganus developed the standard operating procedures which served as the standard of care for all club sports student-athletes. In addition, Aganus strategized and developed partnerships with local hospitals, clinics, concussion centers, physical therapists and chiropractors who would provide the highest standard of care to the club sports student-athletes. Aganus also served a vital role in helping the GCU Men’s Lacrosse team earn the 2017 MCLA DI National Championship in 2017.

Prior to GCU, Aganus served as the head athletic trainer for the University of San Francisco in 2015 where he supervised and managed 16 DI athletic teams and approximately 300 student-athletes. Aganus was promoted to head athletic trainer after serving as the associate athletic trainer from 2013 to 2015. Along with his supervisory duties, Aganus was responsible for the athletic training care of men’s basketball and USF spirit squad while working closely with team physicians and support staff.

Prior to USF, Aganus was an assistant athletic trainer for Cal State East Bay’s men’s and women’s soccer teams and baseball team. Prior to his appointment at CSU East Bay, Aganus was an athletic trainer for a physical therapy clinic in Palo Alto, CA.

Aganus received his master’s of science in exercise science and health promotion through the rehabilitation track from California University of Pennsylvania in 2012 after he completed his Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training from San Jose State University in 2010. During his time at San Jose State University, Aganus worked with Spartan football, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s volleyball and gymnastic teams. Aganus also spent time as an intern for various public and private high schools, the San Jose Sabercats indoor football team and a short stint with the Oakland Raiders.

Aganus maintains his certification in athletic training through the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and holds a certification as a Corrective Exercise Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and is certified in CPR/AED with the American Red Cross.

Aganus was born in the Philippines and moved to Alameda, CA in 1996 where he was raised. He now resides in Huntington, WV with his wife, Marshall volleyball head coach Ari Aganus, and three beautiful dogs.
