Marshall Track Performs Well At Cincinnati

Cincinnati, Ohio - The Marshall Track and Field teams showed some great performances at the Bearcat Classic held at the University of Cincinnati. No school records were broken this week, yet Marshall had some noteworthy individual performances.


Starr Anderson took first place in the triple jump and second place in the long jump. Anderson, a senior from Tazewell, Va., recorded a mark of 36-3.5 in the triple jump, which was half a foot ahead of her competitors. Her mark in the long jump 17-8.75 was a solid jump to earn second place.


Michelle John took first place in the 400m run. John, a junior from Toronto, Ontario, finished with a time of 57.40. Right behind her in third place was Celeste Simpson. Simpson, a sophomore from Knoxville, Tennessee, finished with a time of 57.60.


Marlon Little and Arthur West had some impressive times in the sprints. Little, a junior from Alexandria, Va., finished second in the 100m dash with a time of 10.86. West, a sophomore from Fort Pierce, Fla., placed third in the 200m dash with a time of 21.76.


Marshall hurdlers Richard McNeil and Nimal Bailey placed in the hurdle events. Freshman Nimal Bailey of Brooklyn, N.Y., finished second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.51. Junior Richard McNeil, from Cross Lanes, W.Va., places third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.23.


Andrew Burchfield and Sherry Ott recorded great marks in the field events. Burchfield, a junior from Fairfax, Va., placed second in the discus at 161-1. Freshman Sherry Ott of Ticonderoga, N.Y., placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 145-11.
