Baseball Drops Series Finale to Bowling Green 6-3
4/22/2002
Bowling Green, OH-The Bowling Green State University baseball team completed a four game sweep of Marshall University with a 6-3 victory on Sunday, April 21. With the loss, Marshall drops to 13-21 overall, 4-7 in the conference. BGSU improves to 17-16, 8-5 in conference play.
Marshall was able to grab an early 1-0 lead after a perfectly executed double steal attempt. With David Colangelo on third, Matt White broke for second on a pitch to Gregg Hiller. On the throw to second, Colangelo stole home easily to give the Thundering Herd the lead.
Bowling Green answered in the bottom of the inning, however, to tie the game when Kelly Hunt singled to score Corey Loomis.
BGSU grabbed the lead for good in the third. Andy Hudak doubled to score Loomis to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead.
The Falcons extended the lead to 4-1 in the sixth. After a leadoff single by Kirk Jensen, Hunt hit a double to right-center field to score Jensen easily. Hunt was able to come home when Hudak hit a double into the left field corner.
After the Falcons added a run in the seventh to make it 5-1, Marshall rallied for one in the eighth when Clay DeSantis scored on a double by Hiller.
However, the Falcons were able to answer with another run in the bottom of the inning to make it 6-2. Marshall was able to manage only one run in the ninth, and BGSU held on for a 6-3 victory.
Rick Suter (1-6) took the loss for MU, allowing ten hits and four runs over six innings of work.
Burke Badenhop (3-1) picked up the victory for the Falcons.
Marshall will next face the University of Dayton for a single game on Wednesday, April 24, in Dayton, Ohio.
