Baseball Falls to Findlay 9-3

Huntington, W.Va.?The Marshall University baseball team fell behind early and was unable to recover as they lost to the University of Findlay 9-3 at University Heights. With the loss, Marshall drops to 10-14 on the season, while Findlay improves to 9-6-1.
Findlay pitcher Drew Binkowki (3-0) shut down the Thundering Herd throughout, allowing only six hits and three runs to get the complete game victory. Binkowski also struck out six batters while walking one.
Findlay jumped out on Marshall early, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Ryan Frey hit a two run home run, his second of the season, over the left field wall to give the Oilers their first lead of the game.
Marshall tallied two in the bottom of the inning to tie the score. Matt White followed a Clay DeSantis single with w home run, his fifth of the year, over the left field wall to make the score 2-2.
Findlay took the lead for good with a run in the second and two more in the third. Jeremy Whittlesey?s solo home run in the second gave UF a 3-2 lead. The lead was extended to 5-2 when Matt Banks singled to center field to score Kyle Lacy.
MU cut the lead to 5-3 in the fourth; however, the Thundering Herd could not draw closer as the Oilers tacked on three runs in the sixth, and one in the ninth, to make the final 9-3.
Chris Fritz (3-3) pitched five innings, allowing four hits and five runs, and took the loss.
DeSantis, who went two for four with a run, and Joe Shetler, two for three with a RBI, led the Thundering Herd attack.
Frey led the way for UF, going two for four with a run scored and three RBIs.
Marshall now has six days off and will face the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky., on Tuesday, April 9, at 4:00 p.m.
