Compton Earns MAC Athlete of the Week Honors

Marshall's Erin Compton was selected the first MAC Female Athlete of the Week for the outdoor season. She is Marshall's first this year for both indoor and outdoor track and field.

CLEVELAND, Ohio?Marshall?s Erin Compton was selected the first Mid-American Conference Female Athlete of the Week for the outdoor season Tuesday. Compton marks the Thundering Herd?s first selection this year.

Compton won the award for her performance at the Ohio Early Bird Invitational on March 15. The Oak Hill, W.Va. native broke a Goldsberry Track facility record, a Marshall school record and qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the discus. Her throw of 163-feet-3 inches was 13 feet better than the NCAA Regional provisional qualifier, 14-feet-2 inches better than the old Goldsberry Track record set in 2002 by Lori Williams of Bowling Green. Compton won the discus and hammer throw events and finished fifth in the shot put.

Marshall?s women?s track team was picked to finish 12th by the MAC?s head coaches and the men were picked to finish 10th. Eastern Michigan was picked to win the men?s outdoor title and Ball State was picked to win the women?s.

The Thundering Herd returns to the track Friday at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, North Carolina.
