Marshall To Compete At Ninth Annual Miami Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W. Va.?The Marshall University track and field teams will travel to Oxford, Ohio to compete in the ninth annual Miami Invitational. The Thundering Herd will compete against the Redhawks, Ball State, Cedarville, Louisville, Purdue, Valpariso and IUPUI.
The Thundering Herd is coming off of a strong performance at the McDonald?s Invitational in Athens, Ohio. Junior Terry Stahl qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the men?s hammer throw with a throw of 180-feet-1 inch.
All eyes will be on the Marshall throwers this weekend. Senior Erin Compton will continue to push for the NCAA Regional qualifying mark in the women?s hammer throw. Compton has a season best distance of 167-feet-5 inches, which is less than one foot than the qualifying mark. The Oak Hill, W. Va. native has a personal best distance of 170-feet-1 inch. Compton has already qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the discus throw, where she ranks ninth the region. She is also the top thrower in the MAC this season and has a distance of eight feet better than the second highest mark.
The Thundering Herd will also look to have strong performances from the sprinters and distance runners this weekend. Misha Piper is coming off a strong performance in the women?s 200 meter and 100 meter dashes.
Stephanie Eastman and Sarah Corley look to capitalize on their performances in the 800 meter run and steeplechase, respectfully
Field events are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and running events start at 12:30 p.m.
