Compton Gains Second National Ranking In Hammer Throw

HUNTINGTON, W. Va.?Marshall senior thrower Erin Compton gained her second national ranking Monday in the women?s hammer throw. According to the new national performance list, with her NCAA Regional qualifying distance of 174-feet-9 inches at the Penn Relays Compton will be ranked 67th in the nation in the hammer throw.
The Oak Hill, W.Va. native is also ranked 32nd in nation in the women?s discus. Compton recorded her ninth career discus title Thursday at the Penn Relays by winning the college women?s discus event. She also placed 10th in the college women?s hammer throw.
Compton?s throw of 174-9 inches surpassed the NCAA Regional qualifying mark in the hammer by 6-feet-six inches. She has also passed the NCAA Regional qualifying mark in each of the Thundering Herd?s six meets this season. Compton leads the Mid-American Conference in the discus and is second in the MAC in the hammer.
The Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships are May 15-17 in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The NCAA East Regionals are May 30-31 in Fairfax, Va.
