Baseball Team Signs Hard-Throwing Right-Hander
5/8/2003
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? Head baseball coach Dave Piepenbrink has announced the signing of Jake Cuffman, a right-handed pitcher, to the Marshall University baseball program for next season.
Cuffman, a Butler, Pa., native, was a three-year letterman for Butler High School and posted a 2.99 ERA and a 2-2-1 record in 2003, along with leading the team with a .409 batting average. He recorded 76 strikeouts in 60 innings of work in his senior campaign.
The hard-throwing pitcher?s fastball has been clocked as high as 92 mph, making him a potential selection in June?s Major League Baseball Draft.
?Jake has a strong mound presence,? Piepenbrink said. ?We are eager to have him join our pitching staff next season.?
Cuffman was also a two-year starter at quarterback at Butler and an all-conference punter.
