- Box Score
HUNTINGTON, W. Va. ? After winning the first two games of the series, the Thundering Herd baseball team fell in game three, 7-2, to the Ohio Bobcats Sunday afternoon at University Heights.
Bobcat pitcher Dan O?Rourke pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on three Marshall hits.
Ohio (12-20, 5-7 MAC) tagged Marshall (15-21, 3-8 MAC) starting pitcher Grant Harper (Grayson, KY) for one run in the second, before a fifth inning, which saw them get four more runs. Bobcat right fielder Phil Sabatini had a three run home run in that inning to give OU a 5-0 lead. They added on another run in the top of the sixth when Brian Colopy hit a home run off of Scott Henning (Wilmington, DE), who came in to replace Harper.
Marshall did not score until the bottom of the sixth when Adam Frederick (Franklin, PA) notched his first home run of the season. The Herd added another run in the seventh inning. Brad Helm (Downington, PA) and Mike Koitsopoulos (Markham, Ont.) both reached base on errors by the OU second baseman. With one out, Aaron Jamieson (Lindsay, Ont.) hit into a fielder?s choice to bring in helm and make it a 6-2 game.
In the top of the ninth, Ohio scored another run, this time off of Chris Cummings (Huntington, WV). The Herd was unable to rally and fell, 7-2.
Harper took the loss for MU, dropping his record to 3-4. O?Rourke improved his record to 2-4 with the win. Adam Frederick had two of Marshall?s three hits. Rich Russell (Toronto, Ont.) had the other.
It was a successful weekend for the team, as they took two of three from the Bobcats for the first time since the 1998 season. The Herd will look to get back in the right direction when they take on Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday at University Heights. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
