Sutton Places First to Lead Herd at Akron Open

AKRON, Ohio - Freshman Teniqua Sutton finished first, setting a new school record, in the triple jump with a distance of 39-01.00 feet (11.91m), on Saturday to lead Marshall track and field at the Akron Open.

Senior Zedmalia Wolfe added a fifth place finish in the 200-meter dash (25.62) while junior Xavier Richards placed seventh in the 400-meter dash (58.00). In hurdles junior Karmen Collins had a ninth place finish with a time of 9.10.

In mid-distance, junior Stephanie Eastman placed ninth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:23.99.

The 4x400-meter relay team (Wolfe, Richards, Kristin Herron, Terryn Webb) ran to a second place finish with a time of 3:57.16.

In the field events Danyell Garner had a jump of 17-02.25 (5.24m) to finish sixth in the long jump. Rachel Blankenship finished ninth in the shot put on a throw of 39-05.00 (12.01m).

The Herd next travels to Blacksburg Va. for the Virginia Tech Challenge on Feb. 11-12.
