Marshall Track Finishes Akron Open

AKRON, Ohio- Marshall track and field completed the two day Akron Open Saturday evening with numerous athletes improving on their season best times and distances.

Quinnyana Brown (Amherst, N.Y.) jumped to fourth place in the triple jump with a distance of 37'8.75. This jump improves her season jump by more than one foot. Her previous jump was 36'2.75". Brown also recorded her season best jump in the long jump for a 12th place finish.

Danyell Garner (Logan, W.Va.) finished the long jump in 14th with her new best jump of 16'8.5". Her previous season best was 15'5.50".

In the shot put LaTricia Jones (Spartanburg, S.C.) claimed 12th with hew new season best throw of 43'2.50". Rachel Blankenship (Hurricane, W.Va.) threw for a distance of 4'8.25" for a 17th place finish.

Jessica Pissini (Hermitage, Pa.), Britani Burke (Proctorville, Ohio), Stacie Belzer (Glassboro, N.J.) and Jones all registered their season best tosses in the weight throw. Burke threw for 49'3" and 17th place and Belzer 48'11.75" and 18th place. Jones finished in 21st and Pissini in 23rd.

The 3000m run proved to be an easy event for Marian Brooks (Flat Top, W.Va.). Brooks finished the race in 10th with a time of 17:46.96. This was the first time Brooks participated in the event for the Herd. Marshall's other two runners in the event, Hannah Kovarik(Hurricane, W.Va.) and Sarah Sturgill(Hurricane, W.Va.), finished in 25th and 27th.

Stephanie Eastman (Spencer, W.Va.) and Anna Chaney (Huntington, W.Va.) both ran to new season best times in the 800m run. Eastman finished 20th with a time of 2:26.33 and Chaney 31st in a time of 2:41.06.

Xavier Richards (Kingston, Jamaica) was the only runner to represent Marshall in the 400m dash and she finished 11th with a time of 58.61.

In the 60m dash Tekisha Martin (Michigan City, Ind.) missed advancing to the finals by just seven hundredths of a second with her time of 7.97. Overall, Martin finished in 11th place for the event. Carmisa Morris (Greenville, S.C.) came in 15th with her run of 8.11.

The Herd will run race again on February 10th at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C.
