HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University had three players record double-digit kills including a match-high 18 kills by senior outside hitter Kelly-Anne Billingy, as the Herd posted a 3-1 (30-26, 30-24, 16-30, 30-22) win over the UTEP Miners in Sunday afternoon's Conference USA volleyball match.

With the win, Marshall wins its seventh straight match and sixth in the conference to improve to 13-7 overall, 6-0 C-USA.

UTEP falls to 6-12 on the season and remains winless in C-USA action at 0-7.

"It was nice to get two wins this weekend," head coach Mitch Jacobs said following the win. "UTEP is a lot tougher than their record shows. They play a different, slower style and we knew that we would have a tough time with our blocking game."

Trailing 2-0 in the match, UTEP raced out to a 23-12 lead and used a 7-3 run to close out the game and force a game four.

In game four, the Herd built a 21-16 lead behind four Billingy kills. From there, Marshall scored nine of the next 15 points to post a 30-22 game three victory and seal the match.

"They really kept us from getting our pump going," Jacobs said of the Miners. "We were fortunate to get it together, and our service game picked up a bit and we were able to come away with the victory."

In game one, the teams fought to a 26-26 deadlock following 11 ties and five lead changes, before the Herd scored four straight points, including a kill by junior middle hitter Jalicia Ross and two from Billingy to close out the game.

In game two, the Herd was powered by a seven-kill effort from senior outside hitter Stephanie Cahill who hit at an impressive .778 clip.

Cahill, who needed just two kills entering the match to become third on Marshall's all-time kills list, tallied 17 on the day (to go along with 11 digs), as she passed former Herd great, Bridget Repsher who played from 1991-94 and tallied 1,241 over her career. Cahill has amassed 1,256 in her four years so far for the green and white.

The Herd received solid play from senior middle hitter Uche Ndubisi, who tallied 13 kills, while senior libero Maggie Arias tallied 12 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Kristin Marcum added 10 digs and freshman setter Elizabeth Fleming notched 47 assists in the win.

Marshall returns to C-USA action when they host UAB, Friday, Oct. 12 in a CSTV match-up. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. to be immediately followed by "Thundering Herd Madness" hosted by the men's basketball team at the Cam Henderson Center and admission to both events is free.
