HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall head baseball coach Jeff Waggoner announced today the signing of pitcher Brian Mooney to a National Letter of Intent after a two-year stint in the junior college ranks.

Mooney, a 6-foot-2, 190 pound left-hander, was a 50th round selection of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft out of high school. He played a season at Manatee Community College in Bradenton, Fla., before competing at Suffolk Community College in Selden, N.Y., last season.

His two-year junior college combined stats elicit a 2.71 ERA, an 8-2 record with 77 strikeouts in 73 innings pitched.

"Brian brings added experience to our staff and depth to our left-handed pitching," Waggoner said. "We feel Brian will compete for a starting role in the weekend rotation."

Mooney, a Huntington Station, N.Y., native, played four years at Walt Whitman High School. He was a two-time Suffolk County All-League Team member and an All-County Team selection as a senior in 2005.
