HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University senior outside hitter Kelly-Anne Billingy tallied a match-high 28 kills and head coach Mitch Jacobs earned his 300th career victory to help lift the Herd to a 3-1 (30-26, 30-26, 31-33, 30-20) victory over Tulsa in Sunday afternoon's Conference USA volleyball match at the Cam Henderson Center.

With the win, Marshall extends its winning streak to three games and improves to 9-7 overall, 2-0 C-USA. Tulsa falls to 13-4 overall, 1-1 C-USA.

"The win feels great," Jacobs said of the historic win. "It says that I've been coaching a long time and that I have been somewhat successful. It is great to share some things with your teams, and we've had some great teams here at Marshall."

Leading 2-1 in the match, the Herd built a 22-14 lead and scored eight of the next 14 points to seal the match.

"Tulsa really pushed us in games one, two and three," Jacobs said of the Hurricane's performance. "It was a good test for our team and we only broke once."

Marshall took an early 19-11 lead in game one before building a 28-22 lead. From there, the Hurricane scored the next four points to get to within 28-26 but could get no closer, as the Herd received a kill from senior middle hitter Uche Ndubisi and an ace by senior outside hitter Stephanie Cahill to close out the game.

In game two, Marshall built an early 19-11 lead before Tulsa used a 16-9 run to close the gap to 28-25. The Herd then scored two of the next three points capped off by a Billingy kill to take a two-game lead in the match.

In the third frame, the teams fought to 12 ties and six lead changes before being tied at 31-31. From there, the Herd suffered two attacking errors and dropped the 33-31 decision.

Cahill finished the match with 15 kills while Ndubisi added 12 in the win for the Herd. Senior libero Maggie Arias tallied 15 digs in the match, while freshman setter Elizabeth Fleming handed out 56 helpers in the match.

The returns to C-USA action on Friday, Sept. 28 when it travels to face Southern Mississippi at 7 p.m. The Herd then travels to Orlando to compete against Central Florida on Sunday, Sept. 30. Match-time there is 12 p.m.
