TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Three members of the Marshall University women's track team will compete at the NCAA East Regional in Tallahassee, Fla., hosted by Florida State University.
Seniors Rachel Blankenship and Teniqua Sutton along with sophomore Andrea Jackson will compete in their events after hitting qualifying marks during the 2008 outdoor season with the hopes of reaching the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
Blankenship was the first member to qualify in the shot put during the Asics/Winthrop Invitational with a throw of 14.36m which won the event and set a new school record.
She would later top that mark and the record at the C-USA Outdoor Championships with a throw of 14.87m. The Hurricane, W.Va. native started out her final year by breaking the school indoor shot put record as well.
Sutton and Jackson both earned their regional spots in the triple jump event. Both first qualified at the Duke Invitational finishing first and second respectively. Sutton leapt to a mark of 12.70m; a then school record, while Jackson hit 12.62m.
Jackson, who broke Sutton's indoor record earlier this year, hit the mark of 12.71m at the Penn Relays which was also a season best and new record.
All three student-athletes will compete Saturday May 31 with the shot put and triple jump both beginning at 4 p.m.
