Volleyball Drops Tilt Against Rice, 3-0

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University volleyball team fell in straight sets to the Rice Owls, 3-0 (16-25, 17-25, 18-25) in Conference USA action on Sunday afternoon at the Cam Henderson Center.
The loss drops Marshall to 9-15 overall and 3-9 in C-USA play, while the win ups Rice's record to 14-11 and 9-4 against conference opponents.
"We went with one of our more experienced lineups and we were getting very little passion," head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "I'm concerned with where we are mentally. I know there is a lot of frustration going on and we've got to keep working to find that emotion."
Freshman Dorothy Rahal topped the Herd with 13 digs to anchor the defense, while senior Elizabeth Herman recorded eight kills. Sophomore Abby Tomas connected for seven spikes and senior Elizabeth Fleming dished out 17 assists and posted six digs in the loss.
Rice was led by Jordan Meredith and Mariah Riddlesprigger each tallied nine kills apiece and libero Tracey Lam registered a match-high 17 digs.
Marshall is off until Fri., Nov. 5, when the Herd travels to Tulsa, Okla. First serve is slated against the Golden Hurricane at 8 p.m. EST.
