Baseball Competes in the Charleston Crab House Shootout

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University baseball team is scheduled to play in the Charleston Crab House Shootout hosted by the The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. The Thundering Herd will take the field against Radford on Friday (12 p.m.), The Citadel on Saturday (2:30 p.m.) and round out tournament play versus Saint Joseph's on Sunday (10 a.m.).
Marshall (2-2)
The Herd enters the tournament splitting a four-game series at Samford in Birmingham, Ala., to open the season. After suffering the taste of defeat in the first two games, MU swung the tide in its favor earning victories in the final two contests.
Victor Gomez led the offense batting .412 (7-for-17) for the weekend, including a double, homer and six RBI. Kenny Socorro collected five hits in the series, including three doubles, while Thor Meeks hit a game-winning double in the series finale.
Radford (0-3)
Radford looks to rebound after dropping all three games at the College of Charleston last weekend. In the season opener, Aerik Taylor was lights out tossing 6.0 scoreless innings surrendering just three hits with three strikeouts. Taylor did not figure in the decision as Radford dropped the game, 8-4.
The Citadel (2-1)
The Bulldogs took two-of-three games at The Citadel Memorial Challenge tournament they hosted the previous week. The Citadel knocked off Delaware and East Tennessee State before losing the final game to Kansas State. Asher Wojciechowski earned Southern Conference Player of the Week by firing 7.0 innings with nine punch outs to earn the victory against ETSU.
Saint Joseph's (0-0)
The Redhawks open their season with the tournament this weekend. St. Joseph's finished 16-30-1 overall in 2009 with a 9-17 record in the Atlantic 10.
