BECKLEY, W.Va. - Four different Marshall baseball players recorded multi-hit games led by James Lavinskas' three-hit effort, but a seven-run second inning was too much for the Thundering Herd to overcome against Radford University, falling 15-5 on Tuesday afternoon at Epling Stadium.

Lavinskas led the charge as he went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI as Marshall dropped to 23-29 on the season. Nathan Gomez added a pair of doubles, while Kirby Pellant and Kenny Socorro each went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Herd.

Radford (29-22) received a solid 6.0 innings of work from usual weekend starter Aerik Taylor. The right-hander upped his record to 6-1 on the season, by allowing five runs (four earned) with four strikeouts.

In just his second start of the season, Kyle Blank (1-1) who had been used primarily as a lefty specialist out of the Herd bullpen making his 31st appearance on the year struggled against the Radford lineup. The Highlanders scored two runs on three hits in the top of the first, capped off by a Matt Mack two-run single to leftfield to take the early two run lead.

The Herd went down in order against RU hurler Taylor prior to the Highlanders exploding for seven runs in the top of the second to own a 9-0 lead.

Thor Meeks knocked home the first run of the afternoon for the Herd with a RBI single, plating Rhett Stafford in the bottom half of the second.

Trailing 10-1 in the fifth, Lavinskas roped his third hit of the day, a double into the right-centerfield gap scoring two more runs, slicing the Highlanders lead to seven, but would get no closer as the Highlanders cruised to a 15-5 victory.

MU hosts Wright State for a three-game nonconference series, beginning on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Kennedy Center.
