IRVING, TEXAS - Marshall's Abby Tomas, Tulsa's Jessica Adams and UCF's Rachel Vuckson have been named Conference USA Volleyball Players of the Week. Tomas was selected Offensive Player of the Week after averaging 4.22 kills per set in Marshall's home wins over Southern Miss and Tulane. Defensive Player of the Week merits go Adams, who produced 5.57 digs per set for league leader Tulsa in wins over UAB and Memphis. Vukson, who ranks third in the NCAA in assists per set (12.05), dished out 11.33 aps for Setter of the Week honors as the Knights downed Houston and Rice.
Tomas averaged a team-best 4.22 kills per game, while hitting a .245 for the weekend. She led Marshall to a pair of home victories over Southern Miss (3-1) and Tulane (3-2). Tomas established career-best kill figures in both matches as she had 16 against the Golden Eagles and bettered that mark by landing 22 kills against Tulane Sunday. The junior currently ranks 12th in the league with a 3.08 kills per set average. Tomas entered the weekend averaging 2.93 kps. This is her first career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
"She's made great strides and has really stepped up for us playing on the outside," said Coach Jacobs about the outside hitter. "It's been great to have the league recognize her excellent performance this past weekend."
Volleyball will be traveling to Houston this weekend for two 7:00 p.m. matches on Friday and Saturday. Both games are available through GameTracker, via www.HerdZone.com.
