Track and Field Fights Tough Conditions at Sea Ray Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Despite constant rain all weekend, the Marshall University women's track and field team was able to record seven top-10 performances at the Sea Ray Relays this weekend at the Tom Black Track on the Campus of the University of Tennessee.
Long jumper Elaine Derricott had the highest finish of the weekend as she finished third with a distance of 5.71m. Vanessa Jules took fourth place in the high jump with her best height of 5-7.
Also cracking the top-10 was Elizabeth Barnhart in the discus as her toss of 40.60m was good for sixth place overall. Amanda Kennedy was 10th in the javelin with a distance of 37.51m.
Moving to the track, Leslie Thomas, the Conference USA Spirit of Service recipient, placed ninth in the 3,000 meter and also set a personal best with a time of 10:34. The Distance Medley Relay team of Cathleen Clark, Heather Saffel, Alecia Hairston and Allison Cox finished fifth overall.
The Herd now turns its attention to the Jesse Owens Invitational next weekend hosted by the Ohio State University.
