MU Places 13 in Top-10 at Polytan Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Elaine Derricott of the Marshall University women's track and field team recorded four top-10 finishes at the Polytan Invitational this weekend hosted by Indiana University.
Derricott's best finish came in the high jump where she placed sixth with a clearing height of 1.62m. She also had an eighth place finish in the javelin, a ninth place finish in the long jump and also a ninth place finish in the 100 meter hurdles.
Amanda Kennedy had the highest finish of the weekend as she placed fourth in the javelin with a distance of 39.64. She was one of three student-athletes who had top-10 performances in the javelin along with Lauren DeHays (7th - 36.46m) and Derricott (8th - 32.33m).
Rolanda Bruce also had a standout performance with a fifth place overall finish in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:03.80. Brittany Carey also found her way into the top-10 placing tenth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.20.
In the distance events, Marshall's Kelley Mortakis placed eighth in the 5,000 meter run 17:34.06 while Leslie Thomas was 10th in that same event in a time of 18:01.71.
DeHays also had a great weekend with three top-10 performances in the before mentioned javelin, the 400 meter hurdles (9th - 1:06.19) and 10th in the long jump (5.01m).
The Herd is back in action next weekend at one of the most prestigious meets in all of the country at the Penn Relays.
