Meeks Named to Johnny Bench Watch List

WICHITA, Kan. -- Marshall catcher Thor Meeks was named to the official watch list for the 2012 Johnny Bench Award, presented by BaseballSavings.com.
The award is voted on by Division I coaches and given each year to the nation's top catcher by the Greater Wichita Sports Association.
Meeks, a native of Hurricane, W.Va., joins fellow competitors Jeremy Schaffer of Tulane and Zach Wright of East Carolina as the three standouts from Conference-USA. The entire list contains less than 50 catchers.
Semifinalists will be announced on May 16, finalists will be announced on June 4, and the award will be presented in Wichita on June 28. Jake Lowery of James Madison won the award in 2011.
Meeks is batting .212 through the first 16 games of the 2012 season. His 11 hits so far have included a pair of doubles as well as a three-run homer which he hit on the road against Gardner-Webb.
For this career, Meeks is a .242 hitter with 24 home runs and 87 RBIs.
