ORLANDO, Fla.- The Marshall University women's track and field team finished the UCF Invitational on Saturday afternoon, drawing an end to a week-long spring break trip that saw the Thundering Herd compete in two meets on the UCF campus.

After last weekend's Black and Gold Challenge, the Herd remained in Orlando for a week of intense training as it prepared for the UCF Invitational. And after Amanda Kennedy broke the school record in the javelin throw on Friday, and Amber Pierson finished in the top-6 with an impressive, career-best long jump, Marshall looked poised for even more success on Saturday's final round of events.

In the end, Delkira Maybin came within fractions of a second of setting a new personal best in the 200m dash, and junior Leslie Thomas placed first in the 5k with a time of 18:40.55. The 4x400 and 4x100 teams also did well to avoid last place finishes in a field of solid competition.

"We got a lot of hard training in this week," said head coach Jeff Small. "Hopefully our hard work will pay-off at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships later this spring."

The Herd will now return to Huntington for a brief stay before heading out to the Texas Relays for a March 27-30 meet.
