NEW ORLEANS, La.- The Marshall University track and field team will travel to New Orleans on Thursday in anticipation of the 2012 Conference USA Outdoor Championships at Tulane University's Tad Gormley Stadium from May 11-13.

The three-day event gets underway on Friday at 3:00 p.m. with the heptathlon and concludes on Sunday at 9:10 p.m. with the women's 4x400m relay. Elaine Derricott, winner of last season's C-USA Outdoor Heptathlon, will look to defend her title alongside teammate Vanessa Jules, who is fresh-off a second-place finish in the C-USA Indoor Pentathlon. Together, the two athletes will look to pick up some vital points for the Thundering Herd in the overall standings.

Elsewhere, Leslie Thomas, who broke the school record in the 3000m at the C-USA Indoor Championships, will hope to establish yet another Marshall standard with a solid performance in the 10,000m run. Set to begin at 8:45 p.m., the junior's event will bring day one activities to an end for the Herd. Elizabeth Barnhart and Amanda Hottenstein will also be in action on Friday, competing in the hammer throw at 4:30 p.m.
