HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall baseball will open its 2013 regular season Friday against Old Dominion for the start of a three-game series at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex in Norfolk, Va.

Game times/probable starters:

Friday: 3 p.m.
Chase Boster (R), Dean Ali (R)

Saturday: 2 p.m.
Aaron Blair (R), Ryan Yarborough (L)

Sunday: 1 p.m.
Wayland Moore (L), Tommy Alexander (R)

Marshall (17-37 in 2012) and Old Dominion (19-34) have met only twice in their histories, splitting a two-game series on the opening weekend of 2009. MU took game one 3-2 but fell in game two 9-5.

The Thundering Herd, which includes a veteran squad of eight seniors, returns all but two of its regular starters from last season. Seniors Nathan Gomez and Isaac Ballou were Marshall's top hitters and look to lead the team and its 16 new faces this season.

The Monarchs lost five of last year's starting position players but return three preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association selections in Josh Eldridge, Brandon Smith, and Dean Ali.

Eldridge led the team in hitting in 2012 with a .299 average. The sophomore added 25 runs, 26 RBIs, five stolen bases, and five triples. Smith, a reliever that collected eight wins and three saves last year, is one of five seniors to represent ODU.
