HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – At the height of its preseason training, Marshall baseball was visited by two professionals from Major League Baseball on Thursday.

Dirk Hayhurst, author of four books about his experience in professional baseball, spoke with the Herd pitching staff Thursday. Hayhurst spend the day providing words of wisdom about mental preparedness and confidence, among other things, within the art of pitching.

The former pitcher was selected in the 8th round by the San Diego Padres in 2003 and also spent time with the Toronto Blue Jays before becoming a TV studio analyst for TBS during the  MLB postseason.

Current Seattle Mariners third base coach Rich Donnelly was also in attendance, speaking with the club on a variety of topics related to the game.

Donnelly has been a MLB coach for over 25 years, spending time with the Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Florida Marlins, Colorado Rockies, and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations prior to his current role. Donnelly is the father of current Herd third base coach and recruiting coordinator Tim Donnelly.

The Herd will make its 2015 debut facing Florida A&M in Tallahassee, Fla., on Friday, Feb. 13.
