HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall baseball (6-13) dropped its home opener Wednesday afternoon, falling 7-1 to Morehead State (11-7) at the Kennedy Center Field in Huntington.
The Herd managed just four hits on the day, two singles and an RBI by senior Sergio Leon (Miami), and a single by Corey Bird (Pinch, W.Va.) and a double by Robert Fajardo (Miami). Fajardo scored the Herd's lone run.
Fajardo plated the run in the bottom of the third, scoring off of Leon's single to give MU the early advantage.
The Eagles tied the game the following frame, and then took the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. A four-run sixth inning helped add insurance for Morehead's 7-1 victory.
Relievers Clint Wilson (Austin, Texas) and Fernando Guerrero (Elizabeth, N.J.) each pitched a scoreless inning of relief, picking up two strikeouts a piece.
Marshall will travel to Birmingham, Ala., to face league foe UAB in a three-game series beginning Friday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. (ET) at Regions Field.
