RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State hosted its Raleigh Relays this past weekend, a meet that features over 2500 athletes from the nation's premier college and high school teams. On Day one, Marshall's track and field team proved themselves to be worthy adversaries to the grand pool of deft contestants.
400 Meters:
Though she did not augment her personal best of 57.41 at the Bulls Invitational in Tampa, Fla., junior Shyra Molton (Ashland, VA), placed 30th out of 119 competitors with a time of 57.79. Molton ran in the eighth heat, where she placed fourth.
100 Meters:
Sophomore Kametra Byrd (Miami, FL) may not have qualified for Day two's final, but her time of 12.55 (T-24th) could be viewed as a foreshadowing of great things to come, as her time cracked the top 15 on Marshall's all time personal bests since the 2013 season.
1600 Medley Sprint Relay:
The 1600 Medley Sprint team (Kearra Haynes, Catika Slay, Breanna Hargrove, Lexie McEntire) finished 13th of 23 teams and fifth in their respective heat, posting a time of 4:13.74.
Shot Put:
Junior Bethany Drury (St. Albans, WV) threw her sphere of iron at a distance of 10.53 meters (34th). Her personal best is 12.99 meters, which ranks fourth behind Amanda Hottenstein's top three records.
Long Jump:
Slay (Douglasville, GA) leaped a distance of 5.14 meters and finished in 12th place.
Triple Jump:
Sophomore Antonique Butler (Nassau, Bahamas) finished 17th out of 42 other jumpers, leaping 11.64 meters. The posting placed Butler in the top-10 on Marshall's personal best list since 2013.
4x400 Meter Relay:
The 4x400 meter relay team (Loren Dyer, Naja Greer, Shyra Molton, Shanice Johnson) garnered the most points for the Herd during the Raleigh Relays, finishing fourth amongst 30 other collegiate programs. The relay team's final time was 3:51.73 and is now in sixth on Marshall's best records since 2013.
4x100 Meter Relay:
Coming in second on Marshall's point-acquiring list is the 4x100 team (Byrd, Johnson, Greer, Isatu Fofanah), which placed sixth out of 34 teams. Their time of 46.95 is just 1.58 seconds away from Marshall's best time since 2013.
400 Meter Hurdles:
Dyer (Larton, VA) finished in the upper-third percentile of her event. Her time of 1:04.88 ranked 20th out of 60 competitors.
4x1500 Meter Relay:
Marshall's distance relay team (Andrea Porter, Madeline Armstrong, Alexandria Phares, Barkley Castro) posted a time of 20:38.32, where they finished in 11th place.
4x800 Meter Relay:
A time of 9:48.64 earned the Herd a 19th place finish for McEntire, Porter, Armstrong and Castro.
