HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall baseball will begin its longest home stretch of the season, with five consecutive home games on tap for the week.
The Herd (9-21, 2-10 C-USA) will play host to former Mid-American conference rivals Miami (Ohio) (5-23, 3-6 MAC) on Tuesday, April 7, and Ohio (17-12, 5-4 MAC) on Wednesday, April 8, at the Kennedy Center YMCA Field along Route 2 in Huntington.
Marshall has faced both opponents earlier this season, falling in a close 11-8 contest to Ohio back in March, but pounding out 23 hits in a demanding 16-3 win against Miami on April 1.
Live stats will be available via GameTracker links for both games, and live audio will be available via WMUL 88.1 FM for Wednesday's game.Â
HAVE YOU HERD?
The Herd sprayed 23 hits against the Redhawks last week, as senior Josh King (Troup, Ga.) fell just a triple shy of the cycle. Every Marshall batter who had an at-bat with the exception of one recorded a hit in the contest.
The Herd suffered its first road sweep of the year, falling to No. 22 Florida Atlantic over the weekend.
Freshman Tyler Ratliff (Alexandria, Va.) will take the hill on Tuesday. It will be the first start of his career, and his third appearance of the year. The utility man has also started games at catcher, designated hitter, and first base for the Herd.
SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
Miami is coming off a series loss to Bowling Green over the weekend, but did pick up an 8-3 victory against the Falcons. Senior outfielder Matt Honchel continues to lead the squad, posting a .380 batting average with a team-high 41 hits and 17 RBI.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Ohio enters the week with three straight wins, picking up a series sweep over MAC foe Buffalo. Sophomore outfielder Mitch Longo carries a .374 batting average with 46 hits, 3 home runs, and 27 RBI.
UP NEXT
Marshall will host Charlotte this weekend beginning Friday, April 10 in Beckley, W.Va., at Epling Stadium. The series will be the first time the two teams have faced since the 49ers rejoined C-USA.
