Herd Track and Field Set to Start Outdoor Season

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall track and field team begins the outdoor portion of its schedule this weekend at the two-day Wake Forest Open in Winston-Salem, N.C.
In all, the Herd will compete in nine meets before the Conference USA Outdoor Championships start May 12 in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Last season, the Herd placed 11th in outdoor competition.
The Herd wrapped up its indoor season with a 13th place performance in the C-USA Indoor Championships. Senior Asia Bange placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles, with a time of 8.46 seconds. Freshman Elena Marchand placed sixth in shot put, with a throw of 13.90 meters.
In other events, the team of freshman Elisabeth Paulina, sophomore Breanna Hargrove, sophomore Naja Greer and senior Shanice Johnson placed ninth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:49.42. The team of sophomore Madeline Armstrong, freshman Makaylah Downour, sophomore Barkley Castro and junior Andrea Porter earned 10th place in the distance medley relay in 12:17.55. Armstrong also was 22nd in the 1-mile run, with a time of 5:09.97.
"We're looking forward to getting outside and getting back at it," Marshall coach Jeff Small said. "We're really looking forward to seeing Heidi Heiniger throw the javelin and seeing what our 400 hurdlers can do. Also, we're looking forward to watching the team pass the stick in the 4x100, so we're ready to roll."
