HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Marshall baseball's Corey Bird, Aaron Bossi and Chase Boster were named to the Conference USA All-Tournament team on Sunday.
"I'm so proud of these guys," Herd coach Jeff Waggoner said. "Not only because of the tournament, but for all their years at Marshall. They've helped put Marshall baseball back on the map, and they deserve a chance to display their talents in a NCAA regional."
Bird, a native of Elkview, W.Va., finished the tournament going 8-for-19 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored. He had one stolen base to add to his conference-high 34 steals this season. Bird recorded 13 putouts in the field with a perfect fielding percentage during the Herd's four games. The junior's eight hits in the tournament was tied for the third most.
Bossi, a senior from St. Louis, wrapped up the tournament with a team-high .471 batting average and seven RBIs. Bossi went 8-for-17 at the plate with two doubles and one home run. He registered a .765 slugging percentage and a .444 on-base percentage. He had five putouts with six assists in the field for a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Boster, a Conference USA first team selection from Stafford, Va., closed out the tournament by tossing 12.1 innings with a 2.19 ERA. Boster led the Herd in a career night in the first round against FIU, as he went 7.2 innings with a career-high 11 strikeouts. With the win, he set the record for the most wins in Marshall history with 20. The senior finished with 15 strikeouts, second most in the tournament.
Marshall set a program-record in wins this season with 34, finishing a half game out of first place in Conference USA. The Herd has won 17 of its last 23 games.
The Thundering Herd will learn its fate of an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament on Monday, as the committee will announce the 64-team field at Noon on ESPNU.
