HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-The Marshall track and field team competed in the Kentucky Relays all day Saturday in Lexington at the University of Kentucky.

The top finish from the day came from freshman Elena Marchand who finished second in the discus throw, with a toss of 44.13-meters. She also finished sixth in the shot put (14.07m).

Other top finishes in field events came from sophomore Melany Belot, who placed third in the triple jump (11.80m) and Heidi Heiniger in the javelin throw, who also placed third (40.41m). In the high jump, junior Caitlyn Owings finished sixth (1.60m).

In running events, top finishes included sophomore Victoria Dent, who registered the highest spot for Herd runners, in the 3000-meter steeplechase, running in 12:05. In the 400m hurdles, freshman Sarah Bever placed fourth, running in 1:04.97.

Other top finishes in running events included freshman Makaylah Downour in the 400m, placing sixth (1:00.29) and freshman Kayla Haywood in the 100m (12.36), placing seventh. In the 200m, senior Shanice Johnson finished seventh (24.41) and sophomore Naja Greer finished eighth (24.81).

"The girls did a nice job in their final tune-up for the conference championships next week." head coach Jeff Small commented.
