Finfer, Martin Earn All-Conference USA Honors

IRVING, Texas - Marshall senior Sam Finfer and sophomore Wade Martin were selected to the Conference USA all-conference teams as announced by league officials on Tuesday afternoon.

Finfer was selected to the first team, while Martin was placed on the second team. It's the first time that either were named to an All-Conference USA team.

"Congratulations to Sam and Wade," head coach Jeff Waggoner said. "This is a great honor for the both of them. They worked hard this season and I'm excited to see it being recognized."

Finfer earned a spot on the first team after turning in a strong senior season. The Bellevue, Wash., native leads Conference USA with 18 home runs and a .692 slugging percentage. His 18 homers is tied for the fifth-best in a single season in Herd history. His home run total ranks eighth in the NCAA this season. Finfer finished the season hitting .338, while holding a team-high 68 hits, 17 doubles, 51 RBI, 139 total bases and a .410 on-base percentage. He had 19 multi-hit games, including two of four hits. He was second on the team with 11 multi-RBI games. Finfer was also a threat on the base paths as he had eight stolen bases on nine attempts.

Martin was the only Thundering Herd pitcher to start every game that he appeared in this season, ranking 20th in the NCAA with 14 starts. The Wheelersburg, Ohio native pitched a team-high 87 innings and had 77 strikeouts. He finished with a 3-4 record and a 4.24 ERA. He had Conference USA wins over UAB and UTSA. Martin led Conference USA for batters struck out looking with 21, while ranking fifth for strikeouts (56) in league action. He held opposing hitters to a .237 batting average, good for seventh in C-USA play. He was recently named to the Conference USA all-academic team.

The Thundering Herd finished in ninth place in Conference USA this season with a 25-29 (12-18 C-USA) record. The 25-win mark is the seventh-most in a single season in Herd history.
