Volleyball Back on the Road at Rice

HOUSTON – The Marshall volleyball is back on the road for a Conference USA match against the Rice Owls. First serve from the Tudor Fieldhouse is set for Friday at 7 p.m. eastern.
 
The Thundering Herd enters the match with an overall record of 9-11 and 2-4 in C-USA. The Owls enter with a record of 14-4 and 5-0 in conference action.
 
The match will be broadcast on CUSAtv.
 
Marshall is coming off a hard-fought, five-set win over the UTEP Miners on Sunday. The Herd dominated the decisive set, 15-6, while senior Lauren Mattmuller and redshirt sophomore Ciara Debell combined for seven kills out of the Herd's final eight points. Debell leads the team with 302 kills. Freshman setter Gabrielle Coulter had another great performance against the Miners with 51 assists and has 670 for the year.
 
On defense, junior Amber Weber again helped to direct her teammates into position and came through with 34 digs in the win. Weber leads the squad with 395 digs this season. Freshman Isa Dostal has recorded 23 total blocks (six solo and 34 block assists) while Debell is second with 22 total (10 solo and 24 block assists).
 
The Owls look to continue its successful run coming in with an eight-match winning streak. In its most recent matchup against Southern Miss, the Golden Eagles were the first C-USA squad to take Rice to five sets. The Owls have swept UTEP and Middle Tennessee, and won in four sets over UTSA and defending champion WKU. Rice sports five players with all over 100 kills and are led by Nicole Lennon with 270. There have been two setters sharing time this season as Carly Graham has 408 assists and Adria Martinez is next with 378.
 
On the defensive side, Lee Ann Cunningham leads with 321 digs. On the blocks, Anota Adekunle has 18 solo blocks and 38 block assists. Grace Morgan has nine solo blocks and 60 block assists. The Owls are averaging 2.2 blocks per set.
 
After the match at Rice, Marshall turns around and comes back to the Can Henderson Center to take on Middle Tennessee on Sunday, Oct. 14. First serve set for 1 p.m.
