HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—Marshall cross country runs Friday in State College, Pennsylvania at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals. The meet hosted by Penn State serves as a qualifying meet for the NCAA Championships.

The women's 6K begins at noon to be followed by the men's 10K at 1 p.m.

The Herd returns to action after competing October 27 in the Conference USA Championships. Senior Nick Schmidt and junior Alex Minor earned All-C-USA honors in the meet. Freshmen Madelyn Garrison and Alexandra Evans respectively led the women's side for the fifth consecutive meet.

30 schools from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., and West Virginia will compete in the meet. Nine regional meets across the country will compete nearly simultaneously on Friday.

Five men and five women will compete for Marshall. They are:
Men
Joel Krznaric
Alex Minor
Nick Schmidt
Coy Smith
Ryan Vaught

Women
Alexandra Evans
Madelyn Garrison
Mary Kerby
Audreana Lewis
Abigail Short

Quotes from assistant coach Caleb Bowen
On Nick Schmidt and Alex Minor
"We expect Nick and Alex to run really good, we're hoping that they'll put themselves in a good position towards the front. My goal for them is to get as close to top-30, top-25 as possible. That would be the first time anyone from Marshall has done that since Matt Schiffbauer made nationals. Both Nick and Alex are prepared to do that, they're ready to lay it all on the line."

On the younger men
"The other guys running besides those two have never run at the regional meet. They're just going to gain that needed experience that will help for next year."

On the women's team
"I think this experience will be great for them. Mary and Abbie are the only ones who have run at this race before, the other three will gain this much needed competition experience that regionals provide, it's really, really competitive. Everybody is trying to qualify for nationals, and this will just give us something to build on."
