Herd Prepares For Another Doubleheader Against Western Carolina

CULLOWHEE, N.C.--The Thundering Herd baseball team goes from one North Carolina doubleheader to another for a midweek matchup against Western Carolina University. Marshall looks to improve its 6-3 road record before the team's home opener this weekend in Huntington, W.Va. Game one will take place Tuesday at 12 p.m. and game two will follow at 4 p.m.

HAVE YOU HERD?

--After a strong showing in the Herd's series against Appalachian State, Catcher/Designated Hitter Dakota Robbins leads the team with 11 runs scored this season, his eight RBIs rank second for Marshall. Robbins' slugging percentage is also a team-high .630% after three extra base hits in the final game against the Mountaineers on Sunday.

--Freshman second baseman Geordon Blanton continued to be a threat running the bases, as he is now a perfect 6-6 on the season when attempting to steal. Blanton's 11 hits this season ties him for the most among the Herd's newcomers with third baseman Raul Cabrera.

--Relief pitcher Gordon Cardenas moved to 3-0 on the season against Appalachian State. In 10 innings pitched, Cardenas has given up just three hits and one run.

--Starting pitcher Brad O'Connor collected his first win of the season Sunday. O'Connor leads Marshall's pitching staff with 17 strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings pitched.

SCOUTING WESTERN CAROLINA

--Infielder Andrew Bullock leads the Catamounts with a .310 batting average.

--Outfielder Matthew Koehler has a team-high three home runs, seven RBIs, and four stolen bases in 2018.

--RHP Jake Neizen leads Western Carolina with a 0.77 ERA in 11 2/3 innings.
