Mountaineers Outlast Thundering Herd in 13 Innings

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Second baseman Kyle Gray singled up the middle in the top of the 13th inning to lift the visiting West Virginia baseball team to an 11-10 marathon win over Marshall Tuesday evening at Appalachian Power Park.
The win vaulted the Mountaineers to 20-18, while Marshall dropped to 17-21.
Alek Manoah (2-5) got the win in relief as WVU sent eight pitchers to the mound and BJ Myers recorded his first save. Manoah tossed three innings and allowed just two hits with four strikeouts. Myers allowed just one walk in the bottom of the 13th.
Matt Reed (0-3) suffered the loss as the Thundering Herd threw seven pitchers.
WVU shortstop Jimmy Galusky had three hits to pace the Mountaineers and Gray drove in four runs, courtesy of a two-run homer in the third inning.
Marshall catcher Reynaldo Pastrana belted a three-run homer to center in the bottom of the first frame en route to four RBI. He also scored three runs as well. Left fielder Tucker Linder scored three runs for the home team.
Marshall will dive back into Conference USA play this weekend when it travels to FIU for a three-game series that begins Friday at 7 p.m.
