CHARLOTTE, N.C.-The Thundering Herd baseball team fell 5-4 to Charlotte Sunday in a walk-off loss despite holding seven 49er batters to zero hits on the day.

The loss moves Marshall to 19-28 (7-19 C-USA) this season. Charlotte improved to 30-20 (16-11 C-USA).

Will Ray had the hot bat for The Herd, racking up three hits and a run. Cameron Collett continues to develop offensively in his first year with the team, the shortstop had a hit and a team-high two RBIs Sunday. Tucker Linder and Reynaldo Pastrana also had an RBI each.

Brad O'Connor moved to 3-7 on the year after coming in at the start of the eighth and going 3 2/3 innings. The senior allowed one hit, one run (earned), with two strikeouts and three walks. Charlotte reliever Jonah Patten picked up his third win of the season to move to 3-1. Patten went 1 2/3 innings allowing one hit, no runs, and striking out three with just one walk.

Marshall struck first in the third inning. Kody Matthews got to first after being hit by a pitch, then advanced to third on a double by Ray. Sacrifice hits by Pastrana and Linder eventually scored both runners for the 2-0 lead.

Charlotte responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs of its own to tie the game 2-2, before taking a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning.

In the sixth inning Collet singled up the middle to score Geordon Blanton and Erik Rodriguez from third and second base respectively, tying the game at 4-4.

Both teams went on a long scoring drought until the bottom of the eleventh inning, when the 49ers were able to hit an RBI-double for the 5-4 walk-off win.

Marshall finished the day with four runs off of 12 hits with one error. Charlotte had five runs off five hits with no errors.

Up next The Herd travels to Morgantown to take on WVU Tuesday in its final road game of the season before its final few games in Beckley against Southern Miss.
