HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – After opening the season with two road matches, the Marshall women's soccer team returns to Hoops Family Field for the 2018 home-opener. The Thundering Herd will take on the UT-Martin Skyhawks, Friday at 4:00 p.m.

Fans who cannot attend the match can tune in through Herd Vision on C-USAtv with Jake Griffith on the call.

The Herd enters the match 0-1-1 and the Skyhawks are 0-1. Marshall and UT-Martin met to open the 2017 season with the Skyhawks coming out on top at home, 4-1.

"I think the Herd is very excited about playing in this home-opener," Herd head coach Kevin Long said. "We were able to see some major improvements over the last two games, and we hope that we show continued growth on Friday.

"We will be looking to eliminate some of the close-range opportunities near the goal on the other end. UT-Martin is a good team, well coached with good athleticism and it will be a good test helping us gauge where we are."

The Herd began the season with a close 1-0 loss at Fairleigh Dickinson and then a 2-2 draw at Army. Junior keeper Megan Bonelli has recorded 10 saves and has a .769 save percentage. Senior Ashley Seltzer scored the first goal of the season off a penalty kick and then junior Farah Abu-Tayeh added her first career goal off an assist from junior Gabby Powers in the second half at Army. Nine total players for the Herd have played all 200 hundred minutes: Bonelli, Seltzer, Powers, Jayne Lawman, Metzli Gonzalez, Annie Springer, Jenna Zuzolo and Rene Ross.

The Herd has outshot its first two opponents 29-24.

UT-Martin began the year on the road as well with a 2-0 loss at Arkansas State despite outshooting the Red Wolves 19-5. Arkansas State scored both goals in the first half. UT-Martin is coming off a 6-11-3 season in 2017. Sophomore keeper Erica Myers played 19-of-20 games as a freshman and recorded 85 saves while allowing 32 goals. Senior forward Danae Kaldaridou was the top goal-scorer last season with seven and scored twice against the Herd in the season-opening win. Senior Katelyn Colvin is also back after scoring three goals and eight assists in her junior year.

The match with UT-Martin is part of a doubleheader of Herd soccer on Friday. Following the women's match, the men's team will take on Duquesne in the season-opener at 7 p.m.
