Quotes from assistant coach Caleb Bowen

Opening
"We're really excited. Some of the girls raced in early May, some of the guys haven't since April so we're really excited to get after it. We've done two time-trials but they don't show you everything. We want to see them in a competition setting and hopefully it will bring the best out of them."

On expectations
"Performance-wise, it's a rust buster and we're trying to see where we're at. Our ultimate goal is to be our strongest in late October and early November. With the guys, the 5K is so much shorter than the 8K which is what they'll be doing most of the season. This is more of training emphasis because we're running such a shorter distance, they'll be getting used to running faster which will ultimately help them when they're running 8K's and 10K's."

On opportunity for younger runners
"I think it's going to be a great opportunity for the younger guys and girls. Usually the number one runners get all the praise and attention at meets, but to let them perhaps see their racing style and let them see what it's like at the front without our normal team leaders, it can only give them confidence moving forward."
