HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—Marshall cross country will be back in action Saturday morning at the John McNichols Invitational hosted by Indiana State. The meet from Terre Haute, Indiana begins with the men's 8K race at 9 a.m. ET to be followed by the women's 5K race at 9:30 a.m.

The meet will take place at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, host site of 12 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.

Marshall was originally slated to compete at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Due to the anticipated impact of Hurricane Florence, the meet was cancelled Tuesday night, which prompted the Herd to shift to the John McNichols Invitational.

"I really want to thank coach Jeffrey and Angela Martin of Indiana State for allowing us to enter into their meet on such a short notice," assistant coach Caleb Bowen said. "When Winthrop tweeted their meet would be cancelled, coach Martin replied to the tweet if anyone needed a meet to go to, to let him know. I emailed him as soon as I saw that, and the same night the Winthrop Invitational was cancelled we were entered into a meet at Indiana State."

Marshall will race for the second time this season. On September 1, the team opened up at the Queen City Invitational at Northern Kentucky University. Out of 15 men's teams, Marshall finished ninth (262 points) and out of 13 women's teams, the Herd finished 11th (335 points). Junior Alex Minor and freshman Madelyn Garrison each led Marshall individually.

The men's side will compete in an 8K competition for the first of four times this season. The women's team will once again compete in a 5K race.

"We're really excited to get back into racing again," Bowen said. "Everyone has had a really good few weeks of practice. We've had a few sick and a few banged up, but for the most part, everyone is excited to show up and see what we've got."
