HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Thundering Herd hosted its first track meet Friday, the Marshall Opener, and raced to a tri-meet victory over Ohio and Morehead State at the Jeff Small Track, inside the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Complex.
Â
MU amassed 126 points, while Ohio posted 76 and Morehead State notched 21.
Â
The Thundering Herd won nine of the evening's 13 events, led by Safiyyah Mitchell's 8.54 time in the 60 hurdles and the 4x400 relay team of Jamaicia James, Talor Horton, Ashonti Warner and Mike Alleyne, who won in 3:49.67. Both times are meet records.
Â
"I thought our team was really clicking on all cylinders, especially the sprints and hurdlers," said head coach Jeff Small. "They were really good and our 4x4 was really awesome. With our throws and jumps, we're pretty young so, overall, I was really, really pleased."
