Â
HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The Marshall track and field team is in Birmingham, Alabama this weekend, where they will be competing in the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The event will be hosted by UAB (for the eighth straight season) in their Birmingham Crossplex facility.
Â
Thirteen of Conference USA's fourteen teams will compete in the championships, with Old Dominion University being the exception. The events on Saturday and Sunday morning can be watched online via the CUSA TV live stream (linked above) until 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, at which point viewers will need to switch over to the ESPN+ live stream.
Â
Last season, the Herd finished in eighth place with 35 team points. In the process, the team broke three school records (weight throw, pole vault and 4x400-meter relay).
Â
Twenty-two Marshall athletes, all from the women's side, will be competing throughout the weekend.
Â
The two-day competition begins Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m., with senior Sarah Bever, sophomore Torie Derrow, and freshman Takira Williams all set to compete in the indoor pentathlon. It will be the first time all season that a Marshall athlete is competing in a pentathlon event. Two other field events, long jump and weight throw, will also take place on Saturday, but much of the day will be filled with track trial events in the 60-meter hurdles, 60-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter and 800-meter.
Â
A couple of matchups to keep an eye on:

A couple of matchups to keep an eye on:
- Charlotte's Kyra Atkins is the current CUSA time leader in the 60-meter hurdles. Marshall's Safiyyah Mitchell is second.
- Marshall's Lauren Zaglifa is the current CUSA mark leader in pole vault, while Macie Majoy's top mark is tied for third. Riley Felts of Charlotte and Kylie Swiekatowski of Rice should provide some stiff competition.
- Hasana Clark and Reneese Batson, undoubtedly the top-2 weight throwers in Marshall school history, rank first and second, respectively, in CUSA. Terrisa Russell of FIU and Danisha Jones of Southern Miss. are opponents to watch for.
- Erna Gunnarsdottir of Rice is the CUSA leader in shot put, while Danisha Jones of Southern Miss. ranks second. Marshall's Elena Marchand, whose mark ranks third, should provide some serious competition for the two.
