AKRON, Ohio – After a light schedule on Thursday and a handful of events on Friday, Marshall track and field wrapped up the first two days of the Akron Invitational.

On Friday, junior Alex Minor of the Marshall cross country team finished a team-high ninth in the men's 5000-meter--with a time of 15:00.89. He was joined in the event by sophomore Joel Krznaric and senior Daniel Green.
Competing in long jump for the first time this season, sophomore Torie Derrow finished with a mark of 4.92 meters.
Day three kicks off at 10 a.m., Saturday, with the men's 3000-meter, and the Herd's Coy Smith is set to compete in the event.
COLUMBIA, S.C.- Shifting gears to the Carolina Challenge, the Thundering Herd got off to a hot start on Friday due to a pair of key track performances. First, senior Kayla Haywood finished with the fifth best time (out of 71 others) in the 60-meter qualifier. As per competition rules (top-8 times advance), she qualified to race in the semi-final with 24 other "invite" athletes.
Taylor Robinson finished with the fourth best time (out of 51 other athletes) in the 60-meter hurdles qualifier. She also qualified for a semi-final with 24 other invite athletes. Meeting her there was Safiyyah Mitchell, who happened to be an invite athlete.
Moving over to some field events, freshman Takira Williams' mark of 11.28 meters was good for eighth in triple jump. Senior Sarah Bever also finished 14th in long jump.
Marshall will begin day two on Saturday with pole vault at 10 a.m., where Lauren Zaglifa and Macie Majoy, owners of the C-USA top-2 marks in pole vault, look to keep rolling.
