Weight throw mark falls
HUNTINGTON, W. Va.- Marshall track and field put forth a well-rounded day one at the Qdoba Marshall Invitational Friday, an event that was held at the Jeff Small Track in the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Complex.
Â
In what was perhaps a bittersweet final night at home for seniors Reneese Batson and Hasana Clark, the Herd completely dominated in weight throw. Clark took first, followed by Batson and freshman MaryAnn Adebayo. Clark's performance was undoubtedly the highlight of the night. Her mark of 20.48m (67 feet, 2.25 in.) shattered a number of records and catapulted her up the national rankings. The mark is her new personal record, a Marshall school record, a Marshall Invitational record, the top mark in Conference USA and currently the 22nd-best mark in the nation.
Â
Pole vault, the second event of the night, saw Macie Majoy and Lauren Zaglifa tie for second place with a mark of 3.70 meters.
Â
In the 4000-meter distance medley relay, Marshall's team of Alexandria Evans, Madelyn Garrison, Alyssa Long, and Isabella Tremble finished second--with a time of 12:37.68.
Â
Nickolas Schmidt of Marshall men's cross country also finished sixth in the men's 5000-meter (15:16.14).
Â
Day two of the Invitational, Marshall's final day of the season at home, will begin with high jump at Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
